The Spruce Goons

TJ has been a firefighter and Advanced Care Paramedic with Spruce Grove Fire Services for the past seven years. He's always had a passion for firefighting, fitness, and helping others build confidence through training and mentorship — which is what first drew him to FireFit.

He competed in his first race about three years ago and has been hooked ever since. Whether it's the team atmosphere and being surrounded by like-minded individuals who want to make the industry better, or using FireFit as a way to stay accountable and improve his performance on the job, it continues to push him to be the best firefighter and paramedic he can be while serving his community.

Outside of work, you can usually find TJ spending time outdoors with his family or golfing with friends.

Steven is a dedicated founding member of the Spruce Grove FireFit team and a passionate competitor in his third season with FireFit Championships — Canada's premier firefighter combat challenge sport. The course simulates the most demanding physical tasks of the job: a stair climb with a high-rise pack, hose hoist, hose drag, equipment carry, ladder raise, forcible entry, and a victim rescue drag — all in full turnout gear and SCBA.

Known for his relentless drive, Steven is chasing a career-best individual time of 90 seconds this season. In a sport where sub-2:00 performances mark elite-level competitors, this goal reflects his commitment to pushing the limits of speed, power, endurance, and mental toughness.

As a founding member, Steven has helped build a tight-knit group of firefighters who train rigorously almost every single day, year-round — combining functional strength training, metabolic conditioning, technique drills, and recovery work to stay competition-ready.
