Firefighter.

Here's what we look for, how the process works, and how to apply.

The Process

    Apply

    Submit application through the City of Spruce Grove careers portal.

  2. 2

    Written Testing

    Aptitude, medical knowledge, and scenario-based judgment.

  3. 3

    Physical Fitness Testing

    The University of Alberta Firefighting Function Fitness Test, or the Red Deer Emergency Services CPAT-equivalent.

  4. 4

    Interview

    Panel format: HR, the Fire Chief or Assistant Deputy Chief, and typically a Captain.

  5. 5

    Offer

    Successful candidates are offered the position.

  6. 6

    Probationary Period

    One year. Evaluations every three months, plus written exams along the way.

Qualifications

  • Fire Certification

    NFPA 1001 and 1002 preferred.

  • Medical / Trade Certification

    PCP, ACP, or Apparatus Mechanic depending on role. EMR is not accepted.

  • Driver's Licence

    Class 3 with Q endorsement for fire apparatus. Class 4 for ambulance.
